BANBURY CROSS, Banbury, England

FOR BAKER BATTERY MEMBERS who were billeted in Banbury, England...Banbury Cross is still there.  In 1988 Mary Ann, my dear wife, and I spent Christmas in Banbury, England and had a wonderful time.  The building where the troops slept is now a GREAT pub named "The Swan".----Submitted by Carroll Harrod

Utah Beach In 1991

In 1991 Mary Ann, my wife, and I were touring Europe and visited Normandy.  This picture was taken as close as I could determine where I came ashore on June 7, 1944, 47 years earlier.  We also visited Omaha Beach where Mary Ann's first husband, 1st. Lt. Harold Howenstine, went ashore as a member of the 745 Tank Battalion.--Submitted by Carroll Harrod

On May 29, 2002, I (Carroll Harrod) received an E-mail from a young lady named Molly J. Daniel, who lives in Arenzville, IL. She is working on a project to collect stories of servicemen and servicewomen from her hometown, Arenzville. Recently, a neighbor of her mother brought a copy of the Jeopard book and snapshots found when the neighbor was cleaning out a house that once belonged to William T. Charlesworth. She sent me the 14 pictures that were found and also advised me that William Charlesworth died in 1959 and is buried in Arenzville, IL. William T. Charlesworth was a Tech 5 in Service Battery of the 87th AFA Battalion. I am sure some of you Service Battery members will recognize the men in the following pictures, and, if so, please send me information so I can put the names with the faces. We all thank Molly for her interest in the 87th AFA, and her efforts in getting the following pictures to us. Molly would very much appreciate hearing from anyone who knew William Charlesworth, and her E-mail address is: mjdaniel@consolidated.net. Molly is also the volunteer webmaster for: www.arenzvillevets.org. Check it out!
