George Barber Obituary Email received on the website (Webmaster: I received this email on the website on August 26, 2006 from Debbie Petterson. She attached a picture of Gilbert Crow Eagle, his son and their wives which I put on the Special Memories page. If anyone out there can assist her in helping Mr. Crow Eagle, please contact her via her email address – which is: dukesdatter@yahoo.com Hi, I found your web site looking for information about Gilbert O. Crow Eagle. I recently visited with him just 6 days ago (August 20, 2006). I was visiting and doing some work for his son Kenneth and family. Gilbert is doing pretty well at 83. He has been struggling with Leukemia the past few months but doing remarkably well. I have a picture of Gilbert, his wife and Kenneth and his wife. I found out that Gilbert has been living on his veteran benefits only since 1984. He lost his Native American benefits, unlawfully and the case remains open and unresolved. I wish there was someone who could help. It's such a shame someone who fought for their country in such a fierce battle is all but forgotten. If you know an avenue for help please let me know. The help will have to come from outside the Tribal courts, they seem to divide benefits among friends and family and therefore [are] in no hurry to clear up Gilbert's case and restore his benefits. He is one of the last [of] approximately 250 Full Blood Lakotas, and he might not be here much longer. I met Kenneth Crow Eagle very unexpectedly about 5 years ago. I was visiting my paternal family in Wisconsin. I am a Texan of Norwegian and Irish descent. So it’s unusual that they would trust me the way they do and they treat me like family now. I had a feeling I didn't meet him on accident then; now I think maybe it's to help his father. If you have any ideas on whom to contact, please let me know. Sincerly, Debbie Petterson Updated by: J.
